The Turku Art Museum is one of the coolest old buildings in the city. Opened in 1904, it's got an awesome national romantic style designed by Gustaf Nyström. Inside, it houses one of Finland's biggest art collections covering everything from the golden age to surrealism to pop art. They've even got a great collection of self-portraits.

With changing exhibitions and events in their beautiful open spaces, there's always something new to explore. Check their website for information on upcoming exhibitions.

The Museum of Archaeology and Contemporary Art, or Aboa Vetus Ars Nova, is a one-of-a-kind museum located right in the heart of Turku.

The lower level houses Aboa Vetus, which shows off archaeological ruins and tells tales from Turku's history dating back to medieval times. We're talking streets, houses, and more—it's so cool! Up top, Ars Nova focuses on modern art in changing exhibitions and through their impressive collection spanning from the late 1800s to today.

Grab a bite or coffee at their Café Pegasus, do some gift shopping, or just wander and take it all in. With something for all interests, it's a must-visit museum that gives you both the old and the new!

Wäinö Aaltonen Museum of Art

Named after renowned sculptor Wäinö Aaltonen, WAM is Turku's museum for modern art. Conveniently located downtown along the Aura River, it's home to Aaltonen's own works from early sketches to grand finished sculptures like the over 4-meter tall Maiden of Finland that welcomes visitors in the lobby. The museum also hosts his donated collection and other acquisitions spanning different eras of modern art in Finland and beyond.

Wäinö Aaltonen Museum of Art provides a laidback, creative setting to admire works by not only Aaltonen but also other significant Finnish artists, both older masters and up-and-coming talents. The changing exhibitions and bright, open spaces make it an uplifting spot to embrace art from the past and present.

Brinkkala Gallery is an artsy spot housed on the second floor of a historical building right on the Old Great Square. The gallery itself features two cool back-to-back rooms with tall ceilings and windows lining the long walls.
